ITINERARY HUAYHUASH TREK

Day 01: Huaraz - Matacancha

We pick you up from your hotel in the morning to take you to Llamac where our trek starts. On the way we pass the small and isolated village of Chiquian. Already in Llamac we start our first section of the trek and we need to climb up to Pocpa. Then we need to get the 4100 meters to get Matacancha. This is going to be our first camp. From here it is possible to see the Ninashanca mountain at 5607 m and Rondoy mountain at 5870 m. We set up the tents and camp here. (L, D)

Day 02: Matacancha - Mitucocha Lake - Carhuacocha Lake

After breakfast we start our day ascending by the Cordillera's east side. After a steep descent, we will cross a vast plain before reaching the beautiful Mitococha Lake. In the background, you have the huge amphitheatre made of the northern sides of Jirishjanca and the Rondoy mountains. Camping close to Carhuacocha lake and opportunity to do some fishing. (B, L, D)

Day 03: Carhuacocha - Huayhuash
After breakfast we have a long day ascending to Huayhuash. We eat on the way and in the afternoon we prepare the Campsite in Huayhuash (4350m). (B, L, D)

Day 04: Huayhuash - Huayhuash Pass - Viconga
Today is another long hiking day for about 8 hours. You will trek by a wide pass surrounded by many beautiful lakes. An easy ascent to the Huayhuash pass at 4750m places you on the eastern slope of the Cordillera, on the exact division point between the Pacific and Atlantic basins. An easy descent to the Lake Viconga follows. Campsite in Viconga. (B, L, D).

Day 05: Viconga - Cuyoc Pass - Guanacpatay
Today you will turn back to the West side of the Cordillera. The Cuyoc pass is near and at 5000m will be one of the highest points of the trek. The pass is between the Cuyoc and Rinri Jirca mountains. Descent in the Guanacpatay valley and camp at around 4450 m. (B, L, D)

Day 06: Guanacpatay - Huallapa - Huatia
Descent begins by San Antonio, and finally onto Huallapa. To reach Huatia an ascent is required to reach your next campsite. (B, L, D)

Day 07: Huatia -Sarapo Pass - Segya Valley - Tapush - Angocancha
Another high pass, the Segya at 5150m to cross before reaching a position in the centre of a crown made of glaciers with breathtaking views. Camp in Angocancha. (B, L, D)

Day 08: Angocancha -Diablo Mudo (5550m) - Jahuacocha
Today you have the option of climbing Diablo Mudo. After the ascent, you will continue the trek to Jahuacocha. Camping in Jahuacocha. (B, L, D).

Day 09: Jahuacocha - Llamac - Chiquian - Huaraz
Final section of hiking until Llamac, from where you will have private transportation to Chiquian and from there back to Huaraz. (B)
