ITINERARY LARES TREK TO MACHU PICCHU


Day 01:Cusco - Calca - Abra de Amparay- Lares - Huacahuasi

We will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 am in our private transport to head off for the 2 hours drive to Abra de Amparay at 3900m. In this place our guide will give you the instructions about the use of the bikes and the equipment. After, we will start biking down for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to get the town of Lares (3100m) which is the starting point for the trek. Before we start the trek we'll visit the hot springs which are located in meadows just out of town. For those of you who have remembered to bring your swimwear we will take a relaxing dip in the warm waters which are famous for their medicinal powers. Feeling fully refreshed, we begin a leisurely walk up the Trapiche River Valley. After about 2 hours we will arrive at Vilcabamba village where we will stop and have lunch. We will then continue up the valley for another 1½ hours to the small village of Huacawasi (3700m) where we will set up camp and spend the night. (L, D)

Day 02: Huacahuasi – Abra Ipsaycocha – Ipsaycocha lake - Patacancha

Open in new windowMany of the houses that we see in this small village of Huacahuasi are built from stone and have thatched roofs. The people of this village produce beautiful colourful textiles. Today we climb for approximately 3 hours to the top of Ipsayccasa Pass at 4500m. It is the highest pass along the trek. From here we get stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We will descend gently for about 1 hour until we reach the site of our second night's camp beside the beautiful Ipsaycocha Lake. We may be lucky enough to see Andean Geese, Puna Ibis and other wetland birds.
After lunch, we'll walk gently downhill through a wide-open valley for about 2½ hours until we arrive at the village of Patacancha. (B, L, D)



Day 03: Patacancha - Willoc - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast we'll way to the town of Willoc. The people from this area are known locally as "Huayruros" - the name of a red and black seed reminiscent of the colour of their ponchos. We'll have a chance to view some textiles made by the people of this community - the high quality weavings are famous for their intricate designs reflecting aspects of their everyday lives and culture. We keep walking for around 3 more hours until we arrive to Ollantaytambo town where you will have time to enjoy lunch and then take the train to Aguas Calientes.(B)

Day 04: Aguas Calientes- Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco
We have to get up very early in the morning at 5:30 am to have breakfast and then take the first bus to the Archeological Site of Machupicchu, When we get to Machupicchu The tour guide is going to explain the meanings , importance and story of Machupicchu while we walk around the city and visit the most important places of Machupicchu for around 2 hours. After the explanation you have the option for climbing up to the Huaynapicchu Mountain, in front of Machupicchu ruins. After you can take a bus to Aguas Calientes; then we coach the train back to Ollantaytambo and then a touristic bus to Cusco. End of our service. (B).
