ACTIVITIES:

HUASCARAN CLIMBING ITINERARY
Day 01: Huaraz - Musho - Base Camp
We leave from Huaraz in the morning to Musho and after 1 hour we arrive there from where we will take the trail to base camp walking for about 4 hours. The main trail is followed easily to a eucalyptus plantation before continuing up the left bank of the valley. Moraines and mountain streams will be crossed on the way to our beautiful, terraced camp.(BL, D)
Day 02: Base Camp - Moraine Camp
Today, as you climb above the Base Camp, the route becomes more difficult, taking a complex path up and around huge glacially polished granite slabs. Our next camp will be the Moraine Camp 4900m, located just below the glacier. (B, BL, D)
Day 03: Moreine Camp - Camp I
A short rock scramble behind base camp leads onto an expanse of open rock slabs. We will arrive at the edge of the ice itself. An additional 2 hours of glacier traversing takes you to camp I on the glacier at 5400m.(B, BL, D)
Day 4: Camp I - Camp II
Climb for about three hours until La Garganta (The Throat), a broad saddle between the north and south summits. As you climb through the increasingly broken glacier, you will encounter short sections of technical climbing including an ice ascent of up to 60 degrees inclination. Camp II is at 5950m. (B, BL, D)
Day 5: Camp II - Huascaran Summit - Camp II
With the benefit of the climb of the Garganta behind us, the 35° to 40° snow slopes on summit day will be taken in our stride. Leaving our camp on the Col very early, we will cross towards the slopes below the South Summit. We will then climb a short easy angled snow couloir before traversing right, across the face, towards a small group of seracs. From here, we will join the final slope and climb south-east straight up to the summit in approximately 8 hours. Return to camp II for overnight.(B,L,D)
Day 6: Camp II - Base Camp
After breakfast we will go down back to the Base Camp. It will take us approximately 6 hours.(B,BL,D).
